My Journey with Exporting Projects from Replit Successfully
Embarking on my coding journey has been nothing short of exhilarating. Recently, things took an unexpected turn when I decided to export my projects from Replit, a platform that has been pivotal in helping me enhance my programming skills. I discovered the necessity and intricacies of migrating projects, especially after Replit's new changes limited access to free features for developers. This post is a deep dive into my experience, the challenges I faced, and the solutions I found along the way.
The Shift in Replit's Offers
Not long ago, Replit made headlines with their new update, which significantly limited the features offered in their Free plan. I learned that users are now restricted to three projects, one static website, a mere 1GB outbound data transfer, 2GB of storage, and only 600 minutes of development time. This shift was disheartening, especially for users who relied on this platform for education and personal projects. They even threatened to delete inactive user data after a year—totally outrageous, right? Many in the community voiced their frustrations, and I realized it was time to look for alternatives while safeguarding my work.
The Importance of Exporting Data
Faced with the looming threat of lost projects, I knew I had to act swiftly. I didn't want to lose the countless hours I spent perfecting my coding skills and my projects. So, I set off on a quest to export my work from Replit. Inspiration struck when I stumbled across a detailed guide on Reddit that outlined the exporting process using a simple script. A light bulb moment! It was time to get action!
Step 1: Exporting My Data
To kick things off, I needed to gather all the projects into one Zip file as recommended. The guide suggested leveraging developer tools to fetch URLs for file downloads. I opened the Replit page and dove into the Developer Tools.
Here's how it played out:
Navigated to Developer Tools: Pressed F12, which opened the console.
Paste the Script: I copied a script from the guide into the console.
Let the magic happen: Without touching anything, the script started scrolling, fetching URLs for my Repls.
Once the script fetched all my project URLs, a pop-up displayed them all in .zip format. I held my breath as I clicked through to download each of the files, even using a Download All button to expedite the process. After all ─ who likes waiting around?
Fun Tip: Keep the Downloads Organized
One critical detail I didn't realize was that the files were not downloaded into categorized folders. They were all mixed up, making the exporting process a bit chaotic. After downloading, I had to create a folder for Replit to sort everything out nicely. Lesson learned!
Step 2: Deleting My Account Safely
After securing my precious data, it was time to say goodbye to Replit. Navigating to my account page, I wanted to ensure the steps were secure.
Locate the ‘Danger Zone’: There I found the Request Account Deletion section.
Confirm with a Click: I clicked on it, hesitantly agreeing to delete my account. A sigh of relief washed over me as I completed this step. This was thankfully straightforward and not the daunting exit one might think; it provided a sense of closure after all the ups & downs.
Step 3: Discovering Alternatives
With exporting complete and my account deleted, I shifted my focus to finding alternatives. Some alternatives I looked into included platforms like Fly.io, Glitch, and even Azure which provided free hosting options. However, the search for free hosting is akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. The search results often left me wanting more.
At this point, I came across noreplit.com, which turned out to be a shining light! They provided free hosting solutions that catered well to my personal needs. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to migrate my exported projects onto this new platform.

While searching for platform alternatives, I also learned about Arsturn. With their revolutionary AI chatbot solution, I could engage seamlessly with my audience, providing instant, accurate information without all the hassle.

Step 4: Spreading the Word
After successfully transitioning to a new platform, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. However, I knew my responsibility didn’t end there. With many others still using Replit and facing the same issues, it was essential to inform them about the changes. Raising awareness about Replit’s potential pitfalls allows others to avoid my previous mistakes while navigating their coding journeys.
