Historically, NLP has primarily focused on prediction, classification, & understanding devoid of generating new outputs. In contrast, generative AI seeks to create new data, enhancing capabilities beyond simple analysis. The
NLP models often focus on specific applications, like classifying documents or understanding the sentiment of a statement. Generative AI, however, employs advanced algorithms to produce never-before-seen data.
However, it’s essential to note that from an APPLICATION perspective, NLP utilizes Generative AI technologies to power sophisticated scenarios where both understanding & creativity are needed.
For instance, using
GPT as an NLP engine allows for the generation of human-like text banks. Though, at its core, NLP thrives on understanding rather than creation, it can still adopt generative methods for certain products.
